Some notes on Class Discussions

ASSIGNED READINGS EVERY SESSION
For those who are not the discussants of the day, you are required to read the primary texts (in our textbook) of the assigned philosophers to be discussed in the class. This exercise will enable you to ask questions properly and to be able to have enough background about the major thoughts of the philosophers.

For today, you have to read:
(1) Fridugis
(2) Boethius

Since in our textbook, we do not have a reading on "The Consolation of Philosophy" by Boethius. I would like YOU to have a copy of it and read it before Saturday's class next week. You can also search the Internet for a downloadable copy of the article. I will give a short quiz/exercise about "The Consolation of Philosophy" next Saturday.

OUTLINE OF REPORT/DISCUSSION
As part of the requirement, you have to submit an outline of your report (in bulleted format) and topics plus the bibliography of references that you have used in the discussion at the end of the class. This will help me assess the organization of your report and the extent of your research materials used for the discussion. It must be typewritten on a short white bond paper (no fancy papers please) with 10 point font size Tahoma or Helvetica (no fancy fonts please).

ACCESS THIS SITE
Since we meet only once a week, I would like you to access this site more often, or at least two days before our class. I will post necessary announcements and readings for the succeeding sessions in thi blog. If you have immediate concers, you can always email me at jseliab@gmail.com or call me at (82) 221.2411 local 8303/ 8302.

Assignment of Reports [Pls Read ASAP]

Since the government has declared that August 21, 2004 (Saturday) is a holiday in commemoration of the assasination of Ninoy Aquino, I will take this opportunity to assign via the Internet the topics and schedule of discussions/ discussants (reporters).

Please take note of the structure/flow of the report as published in the Ph 314 Course Pack. A reporter is given not more than 1 hour of discussion during class hour. He/She can use visual aids, powerpoint or keynote presentations. The report will be graded based on the organization of the report and clarity of the report.

An open forum follows the report, students can ask clarificatory questions.

For those who have no copy yet of the Course Pack, you can access it at the Reserve Section of the ADDU Libraries.

Prelim Examinations

The questions for the Prelim Examinations were distributed last Saturday in the class. If you failed to have a copy of the questions, please ask one from the office. All papers should be submitted last Monday, otherwise I would deduct a reasonable point for those who would submit late.

Please read the Pag-amin at Papuri of St. Augustine. We will have a short class discussion this coming Saturday. I will also assign Medieval Philosopher for your individual reports starting 24, 2004. Everybody must attend the class on August 16, 2004. Please be guided accordingly.
